LP® SmartSide® Siding

Engineered wood siding that earns its warranty.

LP® SmartSide® is engineered for Georgia's climate — humidity, heat, and storm season. Installed by a Certified Installer, it carries a warranty your buyers will actually remember at resale. Here's what you need to know before you specify it.

LP SmartSide lap siding on a new construction home in Georgia

What is LP® SmartSide®?

Engineered wood that outlasts traditional siding in Georgia's climate.

LP® SmartSide® is manufactured by Louisiana-Pacific Corporation using wood strands treated with LP's proprietary SmartGuard® process — a combination of borate treatment and resin system that resists moisture, fungal decay, and impact damage better than standard wood or fiber cement.

The result is a product that looks and installs like wood, but holds up in the humidity, heat cycles, and storm exposure that Georgia homes face year after year. It takes paint and stain uniformly, cuts cleanly, and doesn't crack or split the way natural wood can over time.

For production builders, LP® SmartSide® has become the default upgrade over vinyl — it photographs better, appraises well, and gives your sales team a real story to tell about build quality.

SmartGuard® Protection

LP's proprietary treatment process resists moisture, rot, and termites. The protection is built into the product, not applied on top of it.

Impact Resistance

Engineered wood absorbs impact better than vinyl and fiber cement. Less denting, cracking, and damage from job-site contact during construction.

Consistent Appearance

Engineered wood holds dimension across temperature swings. No warping, cupping, or gaps that develop over the first few summers.

Standard vs. Certified warranty

The only way to get the certified tier is through a Certified Installer. That's us.

Standard Installation

  • Substrate warranty: 5-year / 50-year
  • Finish warranty (ExpertFinish®): 5-year / 15-year
  • No certified installer registration
  • No upgrade documentation at closing

LP® Certified Installation ✓

  • Substrate warranty: 10-year / 50-year
  • Finish warranty (ExpertFinish®): 7-year / 15-year
  • Certified installer registration filed for the buyer
  • Warranty documentation included in closing packet

Products we install

We work with builders to match LP® SmartSide® profiles to your architectural specifications.

Lap Siding

The most common profile for Georgia production homes. Available in multiple exposures (4½", 6", 7½"). Clean, traditional look with excellent moisture management at the overlap.

Vertical Panel (Board & Batten)

Increasingly specified for gable ends, accent walls, and full elevations. Provides a distinct farmhouse and contemporary aesthetic. Available in multiple panel widths.

Cedar Shake

Used for accent gables, dormers, and architectural detail. Gives the visual texture of split cedar shake without the maintenance or warranty limitations of real wood.

Trim & Fascia

LP® SmartSide® trim boards complete the installation. Consistent material throughout means consistent movement, consistent paint adhesion, and a clean finished look.

ExpertFinish® Pre-Finished

Factory-finished product available in a range of colors. Eliminates field painting, reduces scheduling dependency on paint crews, and carries its own extended finish warranty.

Factory Primed

Standard SmartSide® comes factory primed and ready for a topcoat. Compatible with most exterior paints and stains. Requires field painting after installation.

Common questions

Is LP® SmartSide® a good choice for new construction in Georgia?

Yes. LP® SmartSide® performs well in Georgia's climate — it handles humidity, temperature swings, and the occasional severe-weather event better than vinyl or standard wood siding. It's a popular choice with production builders across Paulding, Cobb, Douglas, and surrounding counties because the certified warranty upgrade gives buyers a tangible quality differentiator at closing.

Does LP® SmartSide® require painting?

Standard SmartSide® comes factory-primed and requires a topcoat of exterior paint after installation. LP® SmartSide® ExpertFinish® products come factory-finished in a range of colors and textures and require no field painting. Both formats are compatible with the LP® Certified Installer warranty upgrade.

How long does installation take?

Time on a typical new construction home depends on square footage, profile complexity, and number of gable features. A standard production home — single-story, lap siding — typically runs 3–5 days per crew. We can give you a more specific estimate once we review your floor plans.

Can we use LP® SmartSide® with spray foam or closed-cell insulation?

Yes. LP® SmartSide® is compatible with standard new-construction wall assemblies including spray foam insulation. If your wall assembly is atypical, share the spec sheet and we'll confirm compatibility before installation begins.
